Absolute Mentoring is an approved provider on the Norfolk County Council Short Breaks Panel, delivering specialist mentoring support through 1:1 sessions for children and young people across Norfolk. Our Short Breaks offer provides a safe and consistent environment, allowing for meaningful time away from home that enhances emotional wellbeing, boosts confidence, and fosters independence.
Short Breaks are funded support services designed to enhance the emotional wellbeing of children and young people with additional needs. They provide structured, positive experiences outside of the family home while also offering planned respite for parents and carers, allowing them to recharge. With a focus on mentoring support, Short Breaks should feel purposeful, supportive, and tailored — ensuring they are not overwhelming or high-pressure.
Absolute Mentoring provides Short Breaks tailored to individual needs, making it especially beneficial for young people who may find group settings challenging, experience anxiety or emotional dysregulation, have SEND (diagnosed or emerging needs), struggle with confidence or social interaction, and benefit from calm, consistent adult mentoring support. Our sessions are relationship-led and built on trust, with a focus on creating a foundation of psychological safety that fosters emotional wellbeing, allowing progress to unfold naturally over time.
Every mentoring programme is personalised to enhance emotional wellbeing. Sessions may include: walking and talking mentoring, outdoor activities and nature-based sessions, bushcraft and practical skill development, community-based visits (parks, libraries, local spaces), emotional awareness and regulation work, and confidence and independence-building activities. These activities serve as a vehicle for connection, communication, and emotional growth, providing essential mentoring support and opportunities for short breaks.
Absolute Mentoring provides mentoring support through a trauma-informed and relational perspective that emphasizes emotional wellbeing. This approach includes: Low-demand strategies to reduce pressure, flexible sessions tailored to the young person’s needs, clear and consistent boundaries, emotional regulation that is both modeled and supported, and progress measured through engagement, wellbeing, and resilience. We prioritize long-term confidence and emotional development over short breaks and short-term compliance.
Families and professionals can expect: professional and consistent communication, written session summaries, and clear safeguarding practices that support emotional wellbeing. We emphasize accountability and reliability, ensuring that all mentoring support services are delivered in line with local authority safeguarding standards and panel expectations, including provisions for short breaks.
